Crocheted Eyes for Toys

Adding eyes to amigurumis can add a lot of personality to a project.

I like plastic safety eyes a lot. And I use them quite often. It is a very quick way to finish crocheted toys.

But there are many reasons we look for an alternative to ready safety eyes.

Here is a tutorial on how to easily crochet eyes for your amigurumi projects.

This pattern is available for free right here below! However, if you’d prefer to download the PDF, you can find it here. The printable PDF version combines all text, pictures and video in an easy format for you to print at home or to save onto your computer and use on your tablet or phone.

Size:

About 1 x 1 cm ( 0.39 x 0.39 inches ) with semi cotton yarn and a 1.75 mm crochet hook.

Abbreviations:

mr, sc n = magic ring - crochet n single crochet stitches into the adjustable loop

sl st = slip stitch (UK=slip stitch)

sc = single crochet stitch (UK=double crochet)

st/sts = stitch/stitch

[n] = the number of stitches in the round

You will need:

- 1.75 mm crochet hook;

- yarn: Yarnart Jeans;

- scissors;

- needle .

You can use the same pattern to make larger or smaller eyes by using finer or bulkier yarn. Also you can use a different color yarn. Pick a crochet hook at least a size smaller than suggested on yarn label and crochet tightly enough to achieve a tight gauge that will not allow the stuffing to show through the fabric.

EYES (Make 2. Use white color yarn)

Round 1: mr, sc 6 = [6] Finish with sl st.

Cut the yarn leaving a long yarn tail for sewing and fasten off.
Embroider pupils with black color yarn. Use thinner yarn.
